All other titles are completely untrue if I’m not hired directly to do a job. #2 ToR isn’t bad! Every time you do anything unencrypted you are at risk even when you don’t use ToR. When you put in a password on a site or log on a pop3 unencrypted your password can be stolen, you are sending it clear-text. You know nothing about who will be listening in and sometimes you don’t even know anything about the site you are communicating with. 11 Responses to “Get this straight…” By David J. on Sep 11, 2007 DS, I understand that what you’ve unleashed isn’t “against” TOR, but a lot of it is being misconceived into a problem with TOR overall. This could have potentially been a great ‘expose’ on why unencrypted communication via the net (or possibly anywhere) is a bad idea — but it’s being tossed around as a TOR insecurity. I’m not a fan of the methods used to gather the communications quite frankly, it can only hurt TOR in the end even though the project isn’t at fault in the least bit. The mentioned attack requires a bit more skills but it pretty much crushes the current security model of Tor (or any similar services) for good beyond any hopes of repair.
